Pregnancy and Chiropractic Adjustments
Earlier this week I was asked by an expectant mother of mine, "how soon after birth can I get adjusted?"
Great question.
The answer- Right away. The baby too. Let's get dad adjusted while we're at it.
Delivery for mom is hard. It's hard on the tissues, it's hard on the joints, it's hard on the brain. Labor and delivery is such a sacred process that is so empowering, yet a massive trauma. It requires the woman to reach inside herself to the very deepest depths of her soul to bring a human, created perfectly for her and her partner, into this world.
Delivery for dad is hard. Jokes aside, hear me out. It's hard on the brain. The labor and delivery process requires supporting his partner from the sidelines. It requires being a protector in a different role. It's just as transformative of a process for them as it is for the mother. Where at the end, a human he 50% created is brought into this world and making him "dad." Whether it's his first child or his fifth, each child offers a different experience.
Then baby. The sweet, precious gift of life that just made their way into this world. The delivery process is not friendly. They are growing inside the womb for months, then make their way into this world either by vaginal birth or C-section and are met with so many forces--touch, sound, and light. Many of these forces are sympathetic drivers, meaning the stimulation of the fight or flight response. Having baby checked after birth allows for vertebral subluxation to be removed, so the nervous system can function in a balanced state. It also allows for evaluation of babies cranium and oral features to assess for ties and primitive reflexes.
